Puzzles, board games and Netflix galore! For most, this is just not enough to get us through the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of us may find comfort in reading a book or even watching our favorite movie a dozen more times. But what more can we do to stay calm, stress-free and positive during a time like this? Adjusting to this new lifestyle for the time being does not mean we should give up on ourselves. During this time, we can focus on our mind, body, and soul.
Here is a helpful list of 7 safe and healthy ways to get you through this pandemic:
#1: Go for a walk (or a run)
While keeping your social distance of 6-feet from others, it is crucial to give the mind and body a break from being indoors all day. A breath of fresh air will help stimulate the mind and get those endorphins pumping!
#2: Meditation / Breathing exercises
Stop and breathe! This is a perfect opportunity to devote less than 10 minutes out of your day to focus on your breathing. Breathing exercises have been proven to improve mental health. Yoga and listening to meditation music are also a great form of self-care.
#3: Cooking / Baking
Cooking is a great way to connect with others in your household during a time like this, especially with kids. Here are some easy lunch recipes you can make in 5 minutes (or less!)

#4: Talk to others while being quarantined
Social distancing is getting the best of us but that doesn’t mean you still can’t talk to your family or friends. Facetime the ones you miss during the day to ease the separation anxiety. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?
#6: Sketch and paint
Looking for something more creative? Grab a pencil and start sketching. Get lost in the world of drawing your favorite pictures, objects or quotes. Drawing can increase emotional intelligence, improve memory, and relieve stress.
#7: Start a new hobby
Now that you’ve got the time, start that hobby you have been wanting to take up for the past 3 years. This is a great time to learn something new, whether it be a new language, writing a book, learning to sew or making improvements to your home. By starting a new hobby, this will increase a creative boost and something extra to add onto your resume.
This pandemic is a great challenge for all of us, it is changing everything we have known about our normal lives. Don’t let this be the only thing we remember from these trying times.
